Mole’s was my college record store back in the day outside the University of Cincinnati in Clifton, just about two blocks away from my cockroach-infested apartment. Life Pro Tip: if you’re a college student at UC stay away from Unique Campus Rentals for the love of God.

I actually did an interview on the owner for one of my college journalism papers but that article is lost to history…back up your hard drives folks. Suffice it to say that the article covered mostly what you’re about to see here in the following pictures: lots of old school charm.

Last time I was here the back was filled with complete junk. Just lots of stuff that wasn’t worth a quarter apiece. That has completely changed. The stacks have been completely reorganized with newer choice selections. Most of it wasn’t what I’m looking for but it was good stuff all the same. Here’s a shot of the jazz section.

Loving the Calhoun St. sign and the Captain Beefheart poster chillin’ next to the Beastie Boys. It takes all types.

Another shot of the back room. I wonder how much colored vinyl this place has lining the walls. And I wonder how much they’d want to each of them. That pink one is looking especially creamy.

Also, jealous of that Bowie poster.

I’ve always been a big fan of this Maxell poster but up until now I didn’t notice that they speaker on there is a vintage JBL L100, which you can tell from the square notch speaker foam. I also didn’t realize that this was created in 1979, thought this was an 80s piece.

Check it out in video form:

The front of the store’s full of more records and a sprinkling of CDs. There used to be a bin on the end of the racks here where I used to find all sorts of cool stuff. That bin is where Japanese electronic music entered my life. I don’t know where I’d be without Yellow Magic Orchestra.

Another shot of the front. That System of a Down sign in the upper right corner really bums me out, man.

Good shot of the featured records rack. Should have taken a better look at this lineup.

Is that Ringo’s head up there in the center? What a creep.

Your friendly neighborhood record peddler.

The first pickup from Mole’s. If you haven’t seen this movie you need to get on it. Just be prepared to feel really uncomfortable. It’s a beautifully constructed piece, but sometimes beauty can give you the heeby jeebies too.
